The Sultanate of Oman represented by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) participates with the countries around the world in the International Civil Aviation Day.

Muscat - December 7th, 2023 

“Improving Innovation for Civil Aviation Development” was the slogan that the Sultanate of Oman represented by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) organized a meeting on the occasion of “International Civil Aviation Day”. The occasion under the patronage of His Highness Salem bin Mohammed Al Mahrouqi - Minister of Heritage and Tourism with accompaniment of His Excellency Eng. Naif bin Ali Al Abri – President of CAA, in addition to their Excellencies and CEOs of the strategic partners of the Civil Aviation sector.

 

The International Civil Aviation Day, which falls on December 7th of each year was designated in 1994 with the aim of helping to generate and enhance global awareness of the importance of International Civil Aviation to the social and economic development of countries and to confirm the role played by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in promoting safety, efficiency and regularity in the field of international air transport. Therefore, in 1996; the United Nations General Assembly officially recognized December 7th as “International Civil Aviation Day” as one of the United Nations official ceremonies.

 

His Excellency Eng. Naif bin Ali Al Abri – President of the CAA - stated that this day comes as an affirmation of the importance of the Civil Aviation sector when the integration and harmony of its components leads towards broader horizons. He added that the CAA always seeks to empower the Civil Aviation sector components and raise the level of compliance with the international standards and recommendations of air safety and aviation security indicators for the Sultanate of Oman.

 

He continued to say, “Oman National Aviation Strategy 2040 Project is an ambitious goal to draw a long-term road map for the Aviation sector in the Sultanate of Oman, as the strategy aims for the integrated planning among the components of this sector to raise the level of its operational efficiency, quality, growth and to enhance active participation among all its components in preparing and implementing the strategy in addition involving the vital sectors such as the tourism and logistics sectors for the growth of air transport activities in the Sultanate of Oman and enhancing the gross domestic product at the net outcome in long run.”

 

During the ceremony, the CAA also launched the special postal stamp on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the Sultanate of Oman’s accession to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The postal stamp reviews the historical sequence of the Civil Aviation sector in the Sultanate of Oman since the establishment of the first airport “Bait Al Falaj Airport” in 1929 and with all what have been followed as developments, achievements and the opening of international airports with most modern and advanced levels that compete with countries around the world.

 

In addition, a presentation of Oman National Aviation Strategy 2040 Project has been delivered, highlighting the project’s objectives; its progress and the percentage of completion.

 

Moreover, in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 in implementing the digital transformation plan; The CAA launched its new website. The new website aims for achieving the best access and brows experience for both the internal employees and external users. 

 

It is worth noting that the Sultanate of Oman is a prominent member of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and it celebrated the 50th anniversary of its accession to the Chicago Convention which signed by the Sultanate in 1973. The CAA seeks to participate and contribute effectively with the rest of ICAO member states, to advance the Civil Aviation’s journey towards advancement and prosperity out of the conviction and belief that the Civil Aviation sector represents an important and indispensable contributor to enrich the overall development of all countries of the world.
