The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) launches a commemorative postal stamp on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Sultanate of Oman’s accession to ICAO

Muscat - December 7th, 2023 

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) launched a special commemorative postal stamp on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the Sultanate of Oman’s accession to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). His Excellency Eng. Naif bin Ali Al Abri, president of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and AlSheikh Ibrahim bin Sultan Al Hosani, acting CEO of Oman Post and ASYAD Express whom approved the postal stamp. This was during the meeting held by the CAA on the occasion of International Civil Aviation Day which was sponsored by His Highness Salem bin Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism and the presence of their Excellencies and CEOs of strategic partners in the Civil Aviation sector.

 

Launching of the postal stamp comes with the aim of commemorating this occasion and as an affirmation of the Sultanate’s endeavor since its accession to the organization in 1973 towards active participation and contribution with member states in advancing the international Civil Aviation field and advancing the development process towards advancement and prosperity.

 

The postal stamp reviews the historical sequence of the Civil Aviation sector in the Sultanate of Oman since the establishment of the first airport, Bait Al Falaj Airport in 1929 and with all what have been followed as developments, achievements and the opening of international airports with most modern and advanced levels that compete with countries around the world.

 

In this regard, His Excellency Eng. Naif bin Ali Al Abri, president of the CAA, stated: “The Civil Aviation sector in the Sultanate of Oman receives keen attention from His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq - may God protect and preserve him - and his wise government, as it is considered an economic tributary and enabler for many other vital sectors.” His Excellency added: “The Sultanate of Oman, a member of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) since 1973, celebrates this year the 50th anniversary of its accession to the Chicago Convention and the Sultanate since its accession, it has been working hard to advance the International Civil Aviation field towards broader horizons.”

 

His Excellency, stressed that the Sultanate of Oman’s keenness to contribute effectively to facilitating the resolution of many international aviation issues. However, the Sultanate continuously support and host many regional and global aviation activities and programs. The CAA aims to advance the name of the Sultanate and highlight its position at the global level and to achieve constructive cooperation with the member states of the ICAO in order to overcoming current and future difficulties and challenges which related to the International Civil Aviation field.

 

Sheikh Ibrahim bin Sultan Al Hosani, Acting CEO of Oman Post and ASYAD Express, said, “We are pleased to participate with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in celebrating this occasion by launching the commemorative postal stamp, as this issuance will contribute to commemorating this event and will help highlight the importance of the Civil aviation sector at the local and global levels and its role in promoting economic and social development in the Sultanate”. He added “our participation in this important occasion is an express of the integration between various public institutions in the country.”

 

It is worth noting that the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) was established pursuant to Royal Decree No. (33/2012) in 2012 which stipulated that the CAA would have a legal personality with financial and administrative independence so that it would be the CAA responsible for the various regulatory and legislative aspects of Civil Aviation field in the Sultanate of Oman. The CAA is taking great strides of progress and development to achieve the aspirations and goals of Oman Vision 2040 for more advanced aviation industry in the Sultanate of Oman.
