The fifth edition of the National Awareness Campaign on the Risks of Severe Weather Conditions and Tsunami Waves held under the slogan “Your Awareness for Your Safety,” will commence tomorrow in South Al Batinah Governorate and continue for three days.
The campaign is organized by the National Center for Emergency Management, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) , the Ministry of Information, and the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority, in cooperation with the South Al Batinah Governor’s Office and the Ministry of Education.
The campaign aims to strengthening community and institutional awareness of weather-related hazards, severe climatic conditions, and tsunami waves, while strengthening public understanding of the multi-hazard early warning system. It also seeks to provide comprehensive guidance on proper conduct during emergency situations.
Furthermore, the campaign strives to improve community preparedness and enhancing individuals’ capabilities in dealing with emergency events through training programs and a variety of activities.
The campaign targets representatives from government and private entities, civil society associations, and charitable teams through several key initiatives, including meetings and seminars, practical exercises, participation in events and activities across the governorate, the distribution of awareness publications, and an accompanying educational exhibition.
It is worth noting that the Sultanate of Oman is among the countries that place significant emphasis on enhancing preparedness levels in confronting the risks of tropical cyclones and tsunami waves.
This campaign underscores the importance of promoting a culture of community awareness to ensure an effective and rapid response during emergencies and to reduce human and material losses. Its activities will begin in coastal governorates before expanding to include all governorates across the Sultanate of Oman.
