CAA and Oman Airports Sign a Concession Agreement to Operate, Manage and Develop Muscat, Salalah and Sohar Airports
Muscat, 5 October 2026: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and Oman Airports have signed a 35-year concession agreement for the operation, management and development of Muscat International Airport, Salalah Airport and Sohar Airport.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the CAA by H.E. Eng. Naif bin Ali bin Hamad Al-Abri, President of the Civil Aviation Authority, and on behalf of Oman Airports by Mr. Haitham bin Nasser bin Said Al-Taie, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Oman Airports, while it has been inked on the sidelines of the opening of the Civil Aviation Investment Forum.
The concession agreement aims to ensure the management of civil airports in the Sultanate of Oman in accordance with international best practices in airport facility management and ground handling services, while maintaining the highest levels of safety and security.
It also seeks to transform airports into integrated logistics and commercial hubs that support economic diversification and align with Oman Vision 2040.
Furthermore, it also aims to enhance the passenger experience by increasing capacity and improving the quality of services provided to passengers and airlines through modern solutions and technologies. It also seeks to empower and develop national talent and increase Omaniszation across various technical and administrative sectors at the airports.
The agreement further establishes a contractual framework governing the management, operation and development of the airports, enhancing their operational and investment efficiency and elevating the quality of services provided in accordance with international best practices and standards.
It also supports future airport expansion and development plans, strengthens the sustainability of airport operations, and develops national capabilities, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of Omani airports and their contribution to economic development.
It is worth noting that, the Civil Aviation Investment Forum aims to showcase investment opportunities related to land development, commercial activities and logistics surrounding Muscat, Salalah and Sohar airports, and to strengthen their role as integrated economic hubs. The forum also highlights opportunities associated with free zones and airport-related logistics services, while seeking to attract new investments, raise awareness of investment opportunities, enhance the investor experience, strengthen integration among relevant stakeholders, and highlight investment in emerging technologies and human capital development.
These efforts contribute to enhancing the aviation sector’s role in economic diversification and supporting the objectives of the National Aviation Strategy 2040.
