THE SULTANATE OF OMAN AND THE REPUBLIC OF ANGOLA SIGNED AN AIR TRANSPORT AGREEMENT
 
 

As part of the State Visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to the friendly Republic of Angola, an Air Transport Agreement between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Angola was signed today, Friday, 18 September 2026, in Luanda, the capital of Angola.
The Agreement was signed on behalf of the Sultanate of Oman by His Excellency Anwar bin Hilal Al Jabri, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, and on behalf of the Republic of Angola by His Excellency Téte António, Minister of External Relations of the Republic of Angola.
The Agreement comes as part of the efforts of the Civil Aviation Authority to expand the Sultanate of Oman’s network of air transport agreements and to establish operational and technical frameworks that support air transport movement and enhance cooperation in the field of civil aviation with countries around the world.
The signed agreement aims to regulate the operational and technical aspects of air transport between the two countries in a manner that serves their mutual interests. It is based on open-skies principles and allows designated airlines to operate an unlimited number of direct flights between the two countries.
The agreement comprises 24 articles covering various provisions related to the economic principles of air transport, as well as regulatory and technical cooperation in the field of civil aviation.
It also includes an annexed route schedule specifying the air routes, with the aim of enabling airlines to plan the expansion of their passenger and air cargo networks between Omani and Angolan airports. Furthermore, the Agreement allows airlines to enter into cooperative arrangements, including code share arrangements on their flights.
In this context, H.E. Eng. Naif bin Ali Al-Abri, President of the Civil Aviation Authority, affirmed that the signing of the Agreement comes within the Sultanate of Oman’s approach to expanding its network of air transport agreements and strengthening air connectivity with countries around the world. He noted that the Agreement establishes a regulatory and operational framework that provides airlines with broader opportunities to develop their networks and supports passenger and air cargo movement between the two countries.
H.E. Eng. Naif bin Ali Al-Abri added: “Air transport agreements represent one of the key enablers for the growth of the civil aviation sector and support its openness to new markets and destinations. This strengthens its role in supporting tourism, trade and investment flows, while advancing the objectives of the National Aviation Strategy 2040.”
The Air Transport Agreement signed today with the Republic of Angola comes as part of the Government’s efforts to support economic development and investment, and to strengthen air connectivity with countries around the world to enhance tourism and trade exchanges and open new prospects for growth in economic and social activities.
With the signing of this Agreement, the Sultanate of Oman has concluded bilateral air transport agreements with 135 countries worldwide. These agreements aim to regulate the technical and operational aspects of air transport and consolidate cooperation and bilateral relations in the fields of air transport and civil aviation with other countries.
