Air Connectivity Development Committee Discusses Unified National Efforts to Enhance the Competitiveness of the Sultanate of Oman
The Air Connectivity Development Committee held its second meeting, chaired by H.E. Azzan bin Qassim Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Tourism, as part of the implementation of the National Aviation Strategy 2040, with the participation of a number of officials and specialists from government entities and institutions concerned with the aviation, tourism, and investment sectors.
During the meeting, the Committee discussed a number of issues related to developing the air connectivity ecosystem in the Sultanate of Oman and unifying national efforts among relevant entities, in a manner that contributes to attracting more airlines, opening new direct destinations and routes, and supporting the growth of tourism and commercial activity.
The Committee underscored the importance of developing air connectivity as one of the key enablers for enhancing the competitiveness of the Sultanate, supporting the growth of the tourism and economic sectors, and leveraging the Sultanate’s strategic location to enhance the movement of passengers, trade, and investment.
The Committee is responsible for establishing the regulatory framework governing its work, adopting mechanisms for implementation and follow-up, in addition to preparing an integrated national plan for developing air connectivity in line with the objectives of the National Aviation Strategy 2040, and identifying priority markets and target destinations.
This includes enhancing integration and coordination between the aviation and tourism sectors, supporting initiatives aimed at attracting airlines, developing incentives that would enhance the attractiveness of the Omani market, as well as monitoring the implementation of the National Aviation Strategy 2040 targets related to the growth of air traffic.
It is worth noting that the Committee’s work comes within the framework of national efforts to enhance the Sultanate of Oman’s air connectivity, raise the level of coordination and integration among various relevant entities, support the growth of air traffic, increase the contribution of the aviation sector to achieving economic and tourism development objectives, and strengthen the Sultanate’s position as an attractive destination for airlines and travellers from around the world.
