The Sultanate of Oman Hosts the Air Traffic Management (ATM) Coordination Meeting and the MID Region ATM Contingency Framework Workshop
The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), is hosting the Air Traffic Management (ATM) Coordination Meeting and the MID Region ATM Contingency Framework Workshop, organized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), from 1 to 5 February 2026 in the capital, Muscat.
This regional event brings together representatives from 19 States, three international organizations ,the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL),as well as three airlines, with total participation reaching approximately 90 experts, specialists, and airspace users.
The ATM Coordination Meeting, which is taking place from 1 to 3 February 2026, aims to review global developments in Air Traffic Management and to discuss challenges affecting air traffic flows within the Middle East (MID) Region and at interfaces with adjacent regions. The meeting also seeks to identify opportunities to enhance airspace management and strengthen regional coordination among States.
The meeting includes bilateral and multilateral sessions to present proposed airspace improvement initiatives, discuss cross-border contingency arrangements, and conduct working group sessions with airspace users. These sessions are designed to advance ATM operational mechanisms and to identify measures for improving the provision of air traffic management services.
The MID Region ATM Contingency Framework Workshop, scheduled from 4 to 5 February 2026, focuses on ICAO emergency planning requirements and objectives, as well as the operational role of the ICAO Crisis Coordination Team (CCT).The workshop also provides a platform for the exchange of experience and best practices among ICAO regions, particularly the Asia and Pacific (APAC) and Middle East (MID) Regions.
In addition, the workshop addresses the ICAO Regional ATM Contingency Framework (RACF), with emphasis on cross-border coordination, a review of the outcomes of the ATM Coordination Meeting, discussion of the draft MID Region ATM Contingency Framework, and the identification of contingency arrangements for predefined potential events.

Saleh bin Abdullah Al Harthi, Director General of Air Navigation at the Civil Aviation Authority, stated that hosting this event reflects the Sultanate of Oman’s growing standing as a regional and international hub for technical cooperation in civil aviation. He noted that the event provides an important platform for exchanging technical expertise and specialized knowledgeand for showcasing international initiatives and best practices in ATM contingency planning, contributing to enhanced safety, efficiency, and seamless air traffic flow, and reinforcing Oman’s role as an active partner in regional and international civil aviation development efforts.
The organization of this important regional event underscores the Sultanate of Oman’s expanding role as an effective regional civil aviation hub, its continued support for ICAO initiatives, and its commitment to strengthening regional and international cooperation, thereby contributing to improved safety and operational efficiency of air traffic management across the region.
