CAA Hosts the MID Region ATM Contingency Framework Workshop

The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), is hosting today the Middle East (MID) Region Air Traffic Management (ATM) Contingency Framework Workshop, organized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The workshop will run for two days.

The workshop focuses on highlighting ICAO’s emergency and contingency planning requirements and objectives, as well as the operating mechanisms of the ICAO Crisis Coordination Team (ICAO CCT).

It also provides a platform for the exchange of experience and best practices among ICAO regions, particularly between the Asia and Pacific (APAC) and Middle East (MID) regions.

Furthermore, the workshop addresses the new ICAO Regional ATM Contingency Framework (RACF), with emphasis on cross-border coordination, harmonization of contingency plans among States and neighboring regions, enhancement of safety through system modernization, increased automation, and improved information sharing.

It also discusses operational challenges between adjacent States and regions, measures to improve air route efficiency, and support for achieving the objectives of the (30/10) Project, aimed at reducing longitudinal separation between inter-regional flights.

This workshop is being held in conjunction with the Special Air Traffic Management (ATM) Coordination Meeting, which took place from 1–3 February 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen regional coordination among States and regions, enhance the safety and seamless flow of air traffic, and reaffirm the importance of joint action and regional cooperation in improving ATM system preparedness and ensuring the highest levels of safety and operational efficiency across the region’s airspace.
