The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) , signed today (25 September 2025) a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), on the sidelines of its participation in the 42nd ICAO Assembly held in Montréal, Canada.

The MoU aims to strengthen cooperation in the field of aviation safety through the adoption of best practices and globally recognized standards, thereby improving performance efficiency and achieving the highest levels of operational safety. It also seeks to align national oversight activities with the requirements of international programs overseen by IATA.

The Director General of Civil Aviation Regulation at the Civil Aviation Authority stated: “The signing of this MoU with IATA represents a strategic step towards enhancing the effectiveness of regulatory oversight, adopting risk-based audit methodologies, and further elevating the quality of services and operational safety across Oman’s civil aviation sector.”

This partnership will enable Oman to benefit from a suite of IATA’s international safety programs, most notably the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), the IATA Standard Safety Assessment (ISSA), and the IATA Safety Audit for Ground Operations (ISAGO)—all of which are essential frameworks for improving safety levels and operational discipline within the aviation industry.

The signing of this MoU underscores the Civil Aviation Authority’s commitment to strengthening Oman’s standing in international aviation organizations. As an active member of IATA, the Sultanate is working through this agreement to consolidate its position as a regional hub distinguished in civil aviation—supporting safe operating standards, while fostering opportunities for technical cooperation and knowledge exchange at both the regional and international levels.
