CAA implements a Basic Aviation Medicine Course to Enhance Air Safety and Qualify Medical Personnel
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is implementing a Basic Aviation Medicine course in collaboration with the Royal Air Force of Oman and Oman Air, with the participation of physicians from various specialties across both the public and private sectors, as well as medical personnel from relevant entities.
The course aims to strengthen the vital role of aviation medicine in supporting the air safety system by qualifying physicians and enabling them to conduct the necessary medical examinations for flight crews and air traffic controllers, in accordance with the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization.
Running over a two-week period, the course features an integrated training program that combines both theoretical and practical components. It goes beyond lectures by offering participants hands-on experience to familiarize them with the fundamentals of aviation medicine. The program also includes field visits to relevant operational environments, such as air traffic control towers, to provide close insight into the nature of air traffic controllers’ work.
The program incorporates the use of simulation devices that replicate real aviation conditions, alongside exposure to specialized aviation medicine equipment, such as hypobaric chambers and spatial disorientation devices, among other advanced technologies that enhance training efficiency.
This course comes as part of ongoing efforts to elevate safety standards in the aviation sector and to enhance the capabilities of national personnel in specialized fields, thereby supporting the air transport system and achieving the highest standards of quality and safety.
Such this courses also highlight the role of the Sultanate of Oman in aviation safety, raise awareness of the importance of aviation medicine, and attract specialized talent, reflecting the sector’s standing and strengthening its reputation at both regional and international levels.
